The first official run of the NJSIAA wrestling power points is now available for viewing on NJ.com.
The power points calculations determine qualifiers for the NJSIAA Team Wrestling Tournament.
- The cutoff for the state team tournament is February 7.
- Power points close at noon February 8.
- The team tournament will be seeded on Feb. 10.
The qualification process for the team State Tournament is based on a long-standing power points formula that will be displayed in near-real time on NJ.com’s boys wrestling page. The girls wrestling power points will appear shortly. For the first time there will be a girls team tournament.
To follow the standings, users can navigate to the boys Wrestling homepage and click on Power Points in the menu bar. Browse into each section to see the standings. Within the standings, you can then click into any team to see how It earned points throughout the season.
The formula is complex, but at its most basic level, the power points are calculated based on the average of a team’s nine best-scoring power point matches.
Teams are required to wrestle at least nine dual-matches against NJSIAA-member schools by the cutoff (Saturday, Feb. 1) to be eligible for the state tournament.
The State Finals are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 22, at Rutgers University’s Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway.
Things to know:
- Teams must be competing on a varsity interscholastic basis and sixty percent (60%) of the dual meets wrestled on or before the cutoff date must be against New Jersey schools.
- In the public school ranks, the top 8 teams in each section and group based on Power Point rankings will qualify for the state tournament.
- For non-publics, any non-public team that enters the tournament will be seeded provided it meets the 60 percent and nine dual meet requirements.
- A seeding committee will seed both the Non-Public A and Non-Public B tournament.
