The verdict is still out on whether the new Melania Trump documentary will be a success when it opens in U.S. theaters on Friday, but it’s already a hit with online meme makers.
The new film, “Melania,” is directed by “Rush Hour” director Brett Ratner, and documents a 20-day period before the 2025 presidential inauguration.
The first lady helped to promote the film by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday, and will be at the film’s U.S. premiere Thursday night at the much-beleaguered Kennedy Center.
But that may not be enough to make the film a hit.
Forbes notes that while some box office prognosticators think “Melania” could earn $5 million this weekend ― a record for a documentary ― others think a total of $1 million is more likely.
Although Donald Trump has claimed that tickets are “selling out fast,” the social media buzz suggests otherwise, since many people are posting photos showing low ticket sales for the film.
No official reviews of the film have been published as of Thursday afternoon, but “Melania” is getting review-bombed on Letterboxd, according to the Daily Beast.
Others joined in to make a mocking-Melania-meme-a-thon.
Popular X user @theliamnissan chimed in with two memes.
Progressive podcaster Brett Meisalas referenced Melania’s husband’s pitiful habit of wanting praise and awards so matter how fake they are.
Others also chimed in with their thoughts.
Frank Conniff, former cast member of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” made a post that suggested the most appropriate place to view “Melania.”
