Aaron Feath scored a game-high 24 points to lead sixth-seeded Hillsborough to a 60-50 victory over 11-seeded Watchung Hills in the first round of the Somerset County Tournament on Saturday.
Feath was efficient from all areas of the court, connecting on eight 2-pointers, one 3-pointer, and going perfect from the free-throw line at 5-for-5. Jack Toth added 12 points for Hillsborough (13-5), while Derek Feath contributed 11 points including three 3-pointers.
Timmy Robertson led Watchung Hills (4-10) with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Will Randolph had a strong all-around game with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Brady Simo added 10 points.
Watchung Hills started strong, taking a 19-17 lead after the first quarter, but Hillsborough responded by outscoring them 17-13 in the second quarter to take a 34-32 halftime lead. Hillsborough extended its advantage in the second half, outscoring Watchung Hills 26-18, including a decisive 11-6 fourth quarter.
The victory advances sixth-seeded Hillsborough to the quarterfinal round, where it will face third-seeded Montgomery.
