A new restaurant serving authentic Peruvian cuisine and handcrafted cocktails has recently opened in Bergen County.
Asu Mare Peru Restobar, a family-run business at 430 Market Street in Elmwood Park, launched takeout and to-go orders last weekend, with full dining service and non-alcoholic beverages starting Monday.
The restaurant offers traditional Peruvian dishes, such as causa limeña, arroz chaufa, tallarines verdes con bistec, arroz con mariscos, ceviche and lomo saltado.
Once the business receives its liquor license, it plans to serve signature cocktails, including Inka Mi Cola, Limapolitan, Aji Amarillo Margarita and Chicha Sour.
The cocktails are inspired by Lima’s nightlife and prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients, according to the restaurant’s website.
Co-owner Anthony Cintron said the inspiration behind the Elmwood Park restaurant came from the owners’ experience running an Asu Mare Peru food truck, which launched in 2020 and sold Peruvian street food.
Cintron said they began developing the brick-and-mortar location in 2024, completely transforming the space.
In the future, Cintron said the owners hope to expand the restaurant into a chain.
The business is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays.
According to its website, Asu Mare Peru serves recipes crafted to honor Peru’s culinary traditions, including family-inspired dishes passed down through generations.
