A Camden County man has been charged in connection with an alleged robbery of a Berlin Township McDonald’s on Friday, officials said.
William Alvarado Jr., 42, of West Berlin, was charged with second-degree robbery, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Police responded at about 6:39 a.m. Friday to the McDonald’s on the 200 block of Route 73 and learned that a masked suspect, later identified as Alvarado Jr., had entered the restaurant and demanded that employees hand over money.
Authorities said Alvarado Jr. kept his hands inside his sweatshirt pocket, leading employees to believe he was armed with a firearm. After receiving money, he fled the scene on foot.
No firearms were displayed, and there were no reported injuries, officials said.
Investigators used surveillance video from multiple locations to track Alvarado Jr. from the restaurant to his vehicle and later to his West Berlin residence.
He was arrested, charged and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance.
Police activity in the area prompted the Berlin Township School District to cancel class Friday, according to a Patch.com report.
