A fatal crash shut down the Sunshine Skyway for northbound drivers and had southbound traffic at a near standstill for much of Sunday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The northbound lanes reopened around 5:15 p.m. The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. near mile marker 12.
Troopers said a 76-year-old Pinellas Park man was riding a three-wheel Spyder motorcycle northbound when he maneuvered to avoid colliding with another vehicle. The man lost control of the motorcycle and was thrown from it. He died at the crash site.
No further information was released about the man.
