Sinner produced a clinical performance to defeat Elmer Moller 6-2, 6-3 and advance to the fourth round. With his one-hour, 17-minute triumph, the Italian extended his ATP Masters 1000 winning streak to 24 matches. Sinner will next face Cameron Norrie.
Madrid native Rafael Jodar edged Joao Fonseca 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-1 in the pair’s first Lexus ATP Head2Head encounter. With the victory, the 19-year-old advanced to the fourth round of a Masters 1000 event for the first time.
Sixth seed Lorenzo Musetti earned a straightforward third-round win. The Italian defeated Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 40 minutes and will next face Miami finalist Jiri Lehecka.
Earlier in the day, singles star Tommy Paul brought his magic to the doubles court. Competing alongside countryman Ethan Quinn, Paul stunned both his partner and his opponents, Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic, by producing an around-the-net winner.
In other action, Tomas Martin Etcheverry advanced by defeating Dino Prizmic 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the third round. The Argentine will next face Arthur Fils.
Recent Barcelona champion Fils advanced to the fourth round in Madrid for the first time by fending off Emilio Nava 7-6(2), 6-3. With the triumph, the Frenchman extended his winning streak to seven matches.
Though Nava didn’t win, the American made sure he finished in style, firing four aces in a row to claim the penultimate game of the match.
