The Lakewood School District says it may have to lay off 162 teachers’ aides as it grapples with major financial pressures and a proposed state takeover.
The Ocean County district plans to issue reduction-in-force layoff notices to all paraprofessionals for the 2026–27 school year, according to a presentation prepared by district officials. Paraprofessionals provide classroom and instructional support, including services for students with disabilities.
