If there was any doubt that Prince Harry remains estranged from the rest of the royal family, Saturday appeared to prove that the divide is as deep as it has ever been. The same day that King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, and other members of the royal family such as Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh gathered on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the traditional Trooping the Colour celebration of the current monarch’s birthday, the Duke of Sussex—who has not participated in that ceremony for four years now—made a public appearance of his own at a venue thousands of miles away, at game five of the NBA Finals.
According to People, Prince Harry was already in San Antonio for the Warrior Games, a competition for wounded military veterans held there from June 13-20. While in town, Harry was invited to the fifth game in the series by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, and the sports fan didn’t hesitate to accept the ticket to the game of the year.
Photographers caught Prince Harry in the stands of Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he watched the New York Knicks make basketball history. The team, which hadn’t won an NBA championship since 1973, defeated favorites the San Antonio Spurs, in a tense game that saw both teams vying mightily for the triumph. But led by Jalen Brunson, who scored 45 points to seal the victory, the Knicks saw a win that has sent New York City into a frenzy.
