OK, Aaron Rodgers, what’s your next move?
After throwing a pick-six to end his Pittsburgh Steelers tenure, it has been reported by multiple sources that he is not expected to be back in Steeltown next season.
Rodgers had a close relationship with Mike Tomlin, and following his stepping down as head coach, that chapter appears to be closed for good.
While Rodgers has been open to retiring and moving on with his life, the 42-year-old will have interest from several NFL franchises if he decides to play another year. Although his swan song in Pittsburgh fell flat against an elite Houston Texans defense, the future Hall of Famer did well in a situation where the supporting cast wasn’t the best or brightest.
Adding on top of that, the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft has one of the shallowest pools of quarterbacks that we’ve seen in recent memory. Outside of projected first-overall selection Fernando Mendoza to the Las Vegas Raiders, there’s a debate on whether any other declared signal caller has a first-round grade.
Teams will be calling Rodgers if he plans to play, and one team has been heavily linked to the former Green Bay QB since it was reported that his time in Pittsburgh is over.

The Minnesota Vikings were on top of the NFL world last year with a 14-3 record. After getting blown out in the first round of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Rams, the team doubled down on rookie QB J.J. McCarthy, who spent that season injured. They let Sam Darnold go to the Seattle Seahawks, and though they were in talks with Rodgers, they wanted to fully back their young gunslinger without competing against a legend.
That narrative has changed. McCarthy struggled in his first year as a starter and continued to miss multiple games due to various injuries. Head coach Kevin O’Connell was blunt, saying he wants a competition for the starting job next year and that it won’t be given to McCarthy outright.
If Rodgers decides to don the purple and horns, he will have Justin Jefferson to throw to, which would be his best weapon since Davante Adams in his prime back with the Packers. Although they didn’t make the postseason this year, they still finished with a winning 9-8 record, even with the quarterback carousel and a slew of injuries.
Brett Favre played for the Packers, the New York Jets, and finally the Vikings.
Could Rodgers complete the prophecy?
