MANILA, Philippines — Upon meeting and jamming with Richard Reynoso for the first time on the set of TV musical and variety show “Vibe,” Filipino band The Bloomfields quickly bonded with him and explored a possible musical collaboration.
The Bloomfields, composed of Rocky Collado, Lakan Hila, Louie Poco and Nathan Abella, released their single Ale back in 2007. But it recently found renewed success on social media especially on TikTok. The track has peaked at No. 1 on TikTok Trending Sounds, reached No. 2 on Spotify Philippines’ Viral 50 and debuted at No. 74 on Billboard Philippines Hot 100.
The late Bodjie Dasig, husband of Odette Quesada, originally wrote the song in the ‘80s. Richard Reynoso came up with his own version of it in 1992.
“And then in 2007, it was suggested to us by our former manager,” recalled Rocky during a presscon. “What we heard was the Bodjie version and we just said, ‘You know what, let’s just do this the way we’re going to do it.’ We can’t pull off the Bodjie version — that’s not us. We had to figure that out.
“So we gave it our groove, we gave it our own facade, the vocal harmonies and that all happened because we all played a lot of The Beatles songs and The Beach Boys. We really trained ourselves to do the vocal harmonies while we played the instruments and the way we play instruments, it’s heavily influenced by ‘60s music. Yun yung kumpas namin talaga. We imbued that song with that.”
On playing Ale with Richard on “Vibe,” Rocky told The STAR, “That was fun. The thing is we never met him ever. That was the first time. We met a lot of artists na nakasabay lang namin sa gigs, TV guestings. He’s (Richard) a great guy and he’s a fun dude.
The Bloomfields is made up of Rocky Collado, Lakan Hila, Louie Poco and Nathan Abella. Their 2007 single Ale has recently regained popularity on social media.
“We talked and chatted. And he said he’d be open to do a collaboration, whatever that is, we’re still thinking about that. He also said that he was very happy that Ale is doing well, suddenly back in the limelight. But he also said that he was a little saddened by the fact that Bodjie couldn’t see that Ale is such a great success now.”
Although “nothing is concrete yet” on the possible collaboration, they plan to meet again soon to discuss it, added Rocky.
Ale gained traction in November last year, coinciding with the promotion of The Bloomfields 2025 single Balikan.
“At that time, we felt the renewed interest in ‘Ale’ was tied to that same sentiment,” Louie said. “It reminded people of 2007 and a simpler era. By December, the song began appearing more consistently on TikTok, being used as background music for travel videos, outfit checks, and everyday lifestyle content. It felt organic and unforced, just people naturally connecting with the song’s feel-good vibe.”
Last year, TikTok content creator @elizabelle featured the song in a Cubao Expo fit-check video, which sparked a dance trend that went viral. Eliza was present during the band’s media event where the group paid tribute to her.
The Bloomfields also announced that they will release new music, both original and covers of OPM classics, and a new album.
(Ale is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide).
