For the second week in a row, Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson was reportedly slated to return to practice. And for the second week in a row, he did not.
Johnson, the Eagles’ All-Pro right tackle, will not play on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. He was listed as “out” on the Eagles’ Friday practice report.
It will be his sixth missed game in a row after suffering a Lisfranc injury in his foot.
Johnson, who hasn’t played since Week 11 vs. the Detroit Lions, will be replaced in the starting lineup by veteran swing tackle Fred Johnson yet again.
The six-time Pro Bowler is likely eyeing a postseason return at this point — especially with next week’s regular season finale vs. the Washington Commanders possibly meaning nothing.
The Eagles will at the very least be the NFC’s No. 3 seed in the playoffs. They can’t rise to the No. 1 seed, and they can’t dip to the No. 4 seed. The only way the Eagles can secure the No. 2 seed is if they beat the Bills and Commanders with the Chicago Bears losing their next two.
The Bears are three-point underdogs against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night. In Week 18, Chicago plays the Detroit Lions, who are on the brink of playoff elimination.
Unless the Eagles beat the Bills and the Bears lose to the 49ers, we might not see Johnson play until the Wild Card round at Lincoln Financial Field.
We’ll see what Sunday has in store.
