MANILA, Philippines — Host-actor Edward Barber officially began his journey to become a pastor for a local Christian church, setting into motion one of his spiritual goals.
Favor Church Manila announced in an Instagram post over the weekend that it had ordained new pastors and pastors in training, including the former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate.
“[They acknowledge] the call of ministry on their lives and commissioning them for the work God has entrusted to them,” the church said. “We honor their yes and heart for Jesus and Favor Church! Keep them in your prayers as they step into this season.”
One of the photos in the carousel shows Edward showing off his pastor in training certificate. Others showed certificates and received blessings after being ordained with full minister credentials.
Celebrities associated with Favor Church Manila include Catriona Gray, Donny Pangilinan, Moira dela Torre, Dominic Roque, Cristine Reyes, and Marco Gumabao.
Edward rose to fame in “Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7” in 2016, where he finished fourth. He was later paired with season winner Maymay Entrata to form the “MayWard” love team, which lasted for around four years.
The actor has always been open about his faith and even hosts “The Painfully Human” podcast on YouTube and Spotify, which centers around faith.
In a 2024 interview, Edward expressed an interest in ministry by becoming a lay pastor.
“I’ve seen hosting as my work, and I love it. I love the people with me. But at the end of the day, if I have to choose between the two, I will probably choose the ministry,” Edward said at the time.
