The basics:
- Jack Hughes had assist in Devils’ 3–1 win over St. Louis Blues, before surprise Saturday Night Live cameo
- Hughes appeared alongside brother Quinn, US women’s hockey stars Hilary Knight and Megan Keller
- Hughes’ Olympic media blitz includes ESPN’s ‘The Pat McAfee Show’, upcoming appearance on ‘The Tonight Show’
Olympic hero and New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes had a Saturday to remember — first on the ice, then under the bright lights of Studio 8H.
Hours after helping power the New Jersey Devils to a 3–1 road win over the St. Louis Blues, where he had an assist, Hughes booked it back to the East Coast.
The player capped the night with a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live. As host Connor Storrie, star of the HBO hockey-themed hit “Heated Rivalry,” delivered his monologue, Hughes appeared on stage alongside his brother – and fellow U.S. hockey teammate, Quinn Hughes.
The SNL cameo is just the latest signal of Jack Hughes’ accelerating star power since his Olympic breakthrough.
Storrie noted the brothers’ gold medal win and offered his congratulations. “Thanks, but we’ve been so busy playing we haven’t had time to see your show yet,” said Quinn. “It’s about hockey, right?”
The actor responded, “Kind of.”
The drama chronicles the secret-years long romance between two rival professional hockey players.
“I got my teeth popped out in the finals,” said Jack. “Does that happen in your show?”
“Metaphorically,” said Storrie, encouraging the Hughes brothers to check it out. “Oh, I hope some hockey players watched it.”

A moment to shine
Captain Hilary Knight and Megan Keller, leaders from the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Hockey team, then joined Storrie on stage. Keller scored the golden goal in the women’s final — also against Canada.
“Don’t worry, we saw your show,” said Keller.
“Oh, wow. Hilary, Megan, it’s so cool that we’re all here,” said Storrie, as the crowd cheered for the four gold medalists donning their medals and the U.S. jerseys.

“It was gonna be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too,” said Knight.
The remark referenced the situation during President Donald Trump’s call to the men’s team inviting them to the State of the Union. The president joked that he would also have to have the women, or face impeachment. The women turned down an invitation to the State of the Union Address, citing prior commitments.
“Yeah, we thought we’d give them a little moment to shine,” Keller joked.
Quinn Hughes said that the last time the men won gold was 46 years ago. Knight pointed out the women most recently won gold just two Olympics ago.
“Nice burn,” Jack Hughes acknowledged about the joke.
“But these gold medals aren’t just for us. They’re for all hockey fans – yours, too,” Jack said to Storrie, who noted that his show speaks to people who are not always represented in hockey.
Making the rounds
On Friday, Jack Hughes appeared on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show,” sitting down for a lengthy interview and even sinking a $100,000 shot for charity. That came on the heels of a memorable Feb. 25 ceremony at Prudential Center where Hughes was honored and celebrated by the home fans, which NJBIZ reported on.
Next up: a Monday night appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, where he’ll be joined by Quinn and Knight on another iconic late-night stage.
