The South, Group 1 meet kicked off the final day of action for the NJSIAA State Sectionals from Rothman Orthopeadics Sports Complex in Toms River.
Boys
On the boys’ side, it was an extremely close finish, which made for exciting action across the board.
In the end, Glassboro edged out Woodstown to win the sectional title. Both sides got dynamic performances when needed the most from its best runners.
For Glassboro, it was Joseph Saicic who came away with two victories. He won the 1,600 with a time of 4:33.37 and 3,200 at 9:52.30. Moses Robles added a gold medal in the high jump at 6-2.
Woodstown was led by Joshua Crawford. He earned wins in the 400 (51.13) and 800 (1:59.87). The 4×400 relay squad also won gold with a tie of 3:30.30.
Haddon Township, which finished in third place, crowned multiple champions as well. Bobby McIlvaine won the pole vault at 12-0 while Kyle Stephens won the shot put with a mark of 47-9.
In the sprints, Camden’s Jaleel Dickerson-Dempsey dominated the 55 hurdles at 7.83 while Donte Davis of Burlington City won the 55 at 6.55.
Girls
On the girls’ side, there was less drama as Audubon cruised to a repeat in South, Group 1 with 90 points.
Riley Fayer continued to prove that she is one of the top distance runners in the state. She won gold in the 1,600 (5:08.61) and 3,200 (11:20.98) to lead the way.
Audubon added victories in the 4×400 at 4:18.72 while Morganna Makuszewski won the pole vault a 9-0.
Glassboro finished as the runner-up with 47 points, edging out Haddon Township, which finished with 46.
Sunsarai Moore of Glassboro earned the shot-put title with a mark of 37-6.75. Virginia Tarasevich finished second. Casey Birdwell led Haddon Township with gold in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.83.
Kayla Romanoski turned in an incredible performance with victories in the 400 (1:00.72) and 800 (2:19.05).
Lower Cape May’s Ella Biersbach cruised in the 55 with a time of 7.59 while Kami Casiano of Woodstown won the high jump at 5-0.
