MANILA, Philippines — Jason Momoa trades his trident for a chain and hook to become the alien mercenary, bounty hunter, and antihero Lobo in the upcoming comic book film “Supergirl.”
Warner Bros. released the official trailer for the film starring “House of the Dragon” star Milly Alcock as the titular character Kara Zor-el, giving a better look at the movie’s plot.
The trailer begins with a short cameo of David Corenswet as Superman, Kara’s cousin, asking her in a video call about her return to Earth.
“I’m just worried that you’re gonna find your stride here if you going off-world all the time,” says Superman while Kara plays fetch in outer space with her dog Krypto.
Flashbacks show the destruction of the cousins’ home world, Krypton, where Kara was forced to leave by her parents, played by David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham.
“Home is wherever you are buddy,” Kara tells Krypto as Jimmy Ruffin’s “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” kicks in.
Things take a turn when Krypto is injured by the Brigands, space pirates and human traffickers led by Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts).
Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley), a young girl whose father was killed by Krem, tells Kara that the Brigands have a way to save Krypto, who only has three days left to live.
Kara’s bar fight, shown in a previous teaser, finally shows Momoa as Lobo, who takes a shot before tossing the glass away.
“Find your place in the universe,” reads the text in between action clips, as Kara tells someone offscreen: “Revenge, it won’t take your pain away.”
More scenes show Lobo on his motorbike and Krem taunting Kara, culminating in a show of heroics from the latter.
The trailer ends with the title card confirming a June 24 release date in the Philippines and a humorous exchange between Kara and Lobo. — Video from Warner Bros. Philippines’ YouTube channel
