It was a busy weekend for the Giants and new coach John Harbaugh.
The team hired two new coordinators, leaving only the offensive job to be filled on Harbaugh’s staff with the Giants. Unsurprisingly, Harbaugh is dipping heavily into his past with the Baltimore Ravens to put together his first staff in New York.
Dennard Wilson, the new defensive coordinator, worked as the Ravens’ defensive backs coach in 2023 under Harbaugh and then spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons as the Titans’ defensive coordinator.
Chris Horton, Harbaugh’s special teams coach in Baltimore from 2019 through 2025, has also followed his former boss to the Giants.
Here’s a complete look at Harbaugh’s hirings so far and where things stand on the search for an offensive coordinator:
Wilson, defensive coordinator: The Ravens, with Wilson as their defensive backs coach in 2023, finished with a 13-4 record and allowed the fewest points in the NFL that season. They also allowed the sixth fewest yards in the league.
Mike Macdonald, now the coach of the NFC champion Seahawks, was the defensive coordinator for the Ravens in 2023 and he left for Seattle after the season. Wilson also left to become the defensive coordinator of the Titans.
Under Wilson, the Titans finished 30th in points allowed, but second in yards allowed in 2024. This season, they finished 28th in points allowed and 21st in yards allowed. Wilson also spent two seasons on Nick Sirianni’s staff with the Eagles, working as the defensive backs coach in 2021 before adding the role of defensive passing game coordinator in 2022. The Eagles had the NFL’s top-ranked passing defense in his second season with the team. Wilson also worked as a defensive assistant with the Jets and Rams.
Horton, special teams coordinator: He has been part of Harbaugh’s coaching staff since 2014, including the last seven years as the special teams coordinator. Prior to that, he was the assistant special teams coach from 2014 through 2018.
Harbaugh, a longtime special teams coach before being hired by the Ravens as a head coach in 2008, has typically had quality special teams units. During Horton’s 12 years working on Harbaugh’s staff, the Ravens ranked among the top 10 special teams units eight times, according to a formula used by former Dallas Morning News football writer Rick Gosselin. The Ravens ranked at the top twice and in the top five seven times.
Offensive coordinator vacancy: Todd Monken, the Ravens’ offensive coordinator the last three seasons, remains the favorite to land the job, but he is also in contention for the head-coaching job with the Browns. Baltimore’s offense ranked 11th in points and 16th in yards last season but was third in points and first in yards in 2024 and fourth in points and sixth in yards in 2023.
Willie Taggart, a running backs coach in Baltimore the last three seasons, has reportedly interviewed for the offensive coordinator job and is expected to follow Harbaugh to the Giants in some role. Taggart played quarterback for John Harbaugh’s father, Jack, at Western Kentucky.
Dolphins offensive coordinator Robert Prince has also interviewed for the OC job. He has spent most of his NFL coaching career as a wide receivers coach. Prior to joining the Miami staff last season, he spent three seasons (2022-24) as the wide receivers coach with the Cowboys. He has also had stints as a WR coach with the Texans (2021), Lions (2014-20) and Seahawks (2009). His only experience as an offensive coordinator came at the college level during stints at Boise State (2012-13) and Portland State (1999-2000).
Other assistants: Matt Pees, an assistant linebackers coach in Baltimore last season, is following Harbaugh to the Giants, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Prior to the Ravens, he worked with the Bears, Falcons and Titans.
Harbaugh is also adding three quality control coaches — running backs Adam Schrack, defensive backs Brendan Clark and analyst Noah Riley — who worked under him with the Ravens.
