Things are “just different” at LSU.
At least according to the football program’s newest coach.
Lane Kiffin took to social media Sunday and responded to questions about how so many “great players from all over the country want to all come play at the same place” with a meme saying things are “just different” for the Tigers.
According to 247Sports, LSU has the top-ranked transfer class for this offseason. It is ironically just ahead of Kiffin’s former team in Ole Miss at No. 2, while Texas, Ohio State and Penn State round out the top five.
The Tigers have 38 total commitments, including one 5-star and 11 4-star players.
Quarterback Sam Leavitt is the 5-star transfer and the top-ranked player in the entire portal this offseason, per 247Sports.
That so many players are joining such a notable program with a new coach comes as no surprise, as the Tigers have a history of success in terms of championships and putting players in the NFL. Kiffin wasted no time being aggressive after landing the job and figures to have a highly ranked team next season with so many notable additions.
But LSU’s ultimate success will likely come down to whether Leavitt lives up to expectations.
The quarterback started his collegiate career at Michigan State before transferring to Arizona State ahead of the 2024 campaign. He helped lead the Sun Devils to the Big 12 championship and the College Football Playoff in his first season with the program while throwing for 24 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Leavitt played just seven games this past season and posted 10 touchdown passes to three picks.
He will now be under even more of a spotlight with Kiffin and LSU in the SEC, and a successful season could set the stage for a lengthy NFL career.
