Former Tabernacle Deputy Mayor Justin Michael Murphy won the endorsement of Mercer County Republicans at their convention tonight, defeating State Trooper Richard Tabor, 66-38.
Former News 12 reporter Alex Zdan, viewed as the front-runner to take on Cory Booker, did not participate in the convention.
In the race for Congress in New Jersey’s 3rd district, attorney Michael McGuire, a Marine Corps veteran and former New York City police officer, defeated Jason Cullen, 58-16. They are seeking to challenge freshman Rep. Herb Conaway, Jr. (D-Delran).
In the 12th district, the Mercer GOP endorsement went to attorney Greg Mele, who defeated U.S. Air Force veteran David Brown, 26-6. The incumbent, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing), is not seeking re-election.
Earlier today, Zdan released a list of Mercer County Republicans who were supporting his candidacy, including former County Executive Robert Prunetti, former Robbinsville Mayor Dave Fried, former Ewing Mayor Jack Ball, former State Sen. Dick LaRossa (R-Ewing), and former Hamilton Council President Dennis Pone.
