Producer Metro Boomin has announced his new mixtape “A Futuristic Summa” will release on July 22.
The St. Louis native has been teasing the DJ Spinz-hosted project since earlier this month, releasing the single “Slide” featuring Roscoe Dash on July 4. The mixtape is rumored to feature 20 tracks with an “all-new cast” of features outside of his usual collaborators, according to Metro Boomin on X.
“A Futuristic Summa” is arriving after a red-hot year for Metro, who released a pair of albums — “We Don’t Trust You” and “We Still Don’t Trust You” — with Future, both within a month of each other last year. The records debuted atop the Billboard 200 upon release and the former spawned the single “Like That,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and set off an ongoing beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Earlier this year, Metro and Future earned five Grammy nominations, but didn’t end up winning in any of the categories.
Fans were anticipating Metro’s collaborative project with JID last year, though it’s yet to materialize. Earlier this year, JID gave an update on the album, telling Complex that it’s still a work in progress.
“When the work is there, you gon’ see. You gon’ know exactly what it is,” he told the publication. “I’m not going to tease and say ‘hey,’ no, this is it. I promise when it’s presented, you’re going to understand exactly what it is. There’s not going to be so much of a mystery around it.”
