President Donald Trump is continuing to fall behind former President Joe Biden in the polls.
On the heels of Presidents Day, a new Yahoo/YouGov poll found that 40% of Americans consider Trump to be the “worst” president in U.S. history, with another 12% believing that he is “worse than average” among presidents who have ever held office. Just 12% of respondents think that Trump is the “best” — while 21% say he is “better than average” and 9% rank him somewhere in the middle.
The poll, released Tuesday, also found that 49% of Americans say Trump is “doing a worse job” than Biden, compared to 41% who argue that he is doing a better job. The figures are more pronounced with independents, with 53% thinking Trump is underperforming compared to Biden, while 33% believe the opposite.
The findings are similar to a string of polls over the last couple of weeks, which have revealed that Trump has been rated less favorably when pitted against Biden.
A Harvard CAPS/Harris poll from Feb. 2 showed that 51% of U.S. voters said Trump is doing a worse job as president than his predecessor, while 49% said he was doing a better job. A Rasmussen Reports poll last week recorded that 48% of Americans believe Biden did a better job as president than Trump, who was favored by 40%. And a recent Economist/YouGov poll found that 46% of U.S. adults say Trump is doing a worse job than Biden, with 40% who say he’s doing better.
When compared to former President Barack Obama, the poll found that Trump’s performance is even more unfavorable: 55% of Americans say the president is doing a worse job than Obama, and 37% think he is doing better. Among independents, the numbers are 57% and 16%, respectively.
According to the poll, Trump’s approval rating is 38%, which is the lowest it has recorded since the president returned to the White House. Meanwhile, his disapproval rating is at its highest point, standing at 58%. The gap makes him 20 points “underwater,” the poll noted.
The poll was conducted from Feb. 9-12 among 1,704 U.S. adults. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
