PHILADELPHIA — After the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Washington Commanders in Week 18, we knew the defending Super Bowl champions would face the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card round at Lincoln Financial Field.
Now, we know when.
The No. 3 seed Eagles will host the No. 6 seed 49ers at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday in south Philadelphia. The game will be broadcasted nationally on FOX.
The Eagles (11-6) will host San Francisco (12-5) at the Linc after losing, 24-17, to the Commanders on Sunday — and losing the NFC’s No. 2 seed in the process.
The Eagles, who rested most of their starters on Sunday, needed to beat the Commanders with a Chicago Bears loss to the Detroit Lions in order to secure the No. 2 seed.
Nick Sirianni and Co. got what they needed at Soldier Field. The Lions upset the Bears, 19-16, with a field goal as time expired. But the Eagles couldn’t hold up their end of the deal.
If the Eagles won, they would have faced the No. 7 seed Green Bay Packers (9-7-1) as the No. 2 seed in the NFC. They also would have been guaranteed another home game if they won.
Instead, here is the NFL playoff schedule for the Wild Card round in full.
