Seattle Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori appeared to have some fun at the New England Patriots’ expense following Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Emmanwori posted a reference to the movie The Warriors with the caption “Warriorrrsssss come out to playy-ayyy” after Seattle’s 29-13 victory:
It seemed to be a reference to the Patriots’ “road warriors” mentality after going 9-0 as visitors this season.
ESPN’s Mike Reiss wrote about that mentality ahead of the Super Bowl and noted the Patriots intentionally chose their road white jersey for Sunday’s game to continue with that theme. Head coach Mike Vrabel also showed the team a clip from The Warriors before a three-game road trip during the season.
“I ran out of [WWE] clips to show them about the ‘Road Warriors’ [tag team]. So, the next thing I could think of was that movie clip, and that’s what we went with,” he said. “It’s amazing what sticks. Here we are at the end of January, and it’s still sticking.”
New England’s three regular-season losses all came at home to the Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills, and it continued its road success with a victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.
But the Patriots’ luck away from Gillette Stadium ran out Sunday.
Emmanwori and the Seahawks defense overwhelmed Drake Maye while sacking the quarterback six times and picking him off twice. One of those interceptions was returned for a touchdown by Uchenna Nwosu as Seattle pulled away down the stretch.
And to the victors go the spoils, which means Emmanwori was free to do some light-hearted trolling of the AFC champions after the game.
