Noah Sosland recorded a hat trick and added two assists to lead Frisch to a 7-2 victory over Montclair in the Kelly Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Mackay Ice Rink in Englewood.
Sosland’s five-point performance paced the second-seeded Frisch (12-3), which advances to face third-seeded Verona-Glen Ridge in the semifinals. Alex Pomerantz contributed one goal and three assists, while Daniel Margolius added two goals and an assist for Frisch.
Seventh-seeded Montclair (3-17) received goals from Daniel Gallagher and Sean Dunne. Gallagher’s first-period tally, assisted by Demitri Zacharia, briefly tied the game at 1-1 before Frisch responded with a goal from Margolius to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Dunne’s second-period goal, assisted by Jaxon Parma and Kyle Parma, tied the game again at 2-2. However, Frisch scored twice in the final three minutes of the period to take control. David Feintuch and Sosland found the net to give Frisch a 4-2 advantage heading into the third period.
Frisch dominated the final frame, adding three more goals. Sosland scored on the power play at 12:05, Margolius added a shorthanded goal at 11:08, and Sosland completed his hat trick at 5:24. Isaac Rosenfeld recorded three assists in the victory.
Montclair goalie John Kavanagh made 37 saves on 44 shots in the loss. Jared Helwani stopped 28 of 30 shots for Frisch.
