Richard Tabor scored a lopsided victory at today’s Middlesex County Republican convention to win their endorsement in his bid to challenge incumbent Cory Booker in the U.S. Senate race.
Tabor, a state trooper and U.S. Army veteran, defeated former Tabernacle Deputy Mayor Justin Michael Murphy, 81-6, with 3 votes cast for Alex Zdan, a former News 12 reporter.
Two other Senate candidates, Englewood physician Robert Lebovics and frequent candidate Natalie Rivera, did not participate.
Middlesex Republicans backed Hillary Herzig to challenge Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-Long Branch) in New Jersey’s 6th district without opposition. In the 12th district, where Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing) is retiring, Republicans unanimously supported Gregg Mele for the open seat.
Tabor has also won party endorsements in Atlantic, Hudson, Hunterdon, Ocean, and Union; Zdan has Bergen, Cumberland, Cape May, Essex, Passaic, and Salem; and Murphy has Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer.
