Teyana Taylor’s outfits are no match for her kids.
The actress, 35, admits that at home, her daughters, Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr., 10, and Rue Rose Shumpert, 5, are her “biggest fashion critics” and “co-stylists.” A stamp of approval from her little ones is a must before she hits a red carpet.
“I don’t leave out the house without their permission, [for them] to say, ‘Okay girl,’ ” she joked with Entertainment Tonight, which also had the “Gonna Love Me” singer admitting that she’s learning tips on how to “serve face” from her mini-mes.

Taylor made a rare public appearance with Junie and Rue at Variety‘s Creative Impact Awards and 10 Directors to Watch brunch during the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Jan. 4. She wore a high-neck dark plum dress layered with a brown belted leather trench coat and heeled sandals.
Her kids shone in their own styles. Junie rocked a patched-up leather jacket, flared pants and gold-toed shoes, while Rue pulled her best pose in a pleated minidress, moto jacket and boots paired with purple knee socks.
Taylor is making her kids proud in more ways than one.
This awards season, she’s earned both Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes nominations for her role in One Battle After Another with Leonardo DiCaprio. She also made headlines with her role in Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair with Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson and Niecy Nash-Betts. She can owe that drive to her two children.
When interviewed by InStyle for a cover story published in August 2025, the star spoke about how welcoming her second daughter made her reconsider her priorities, especially after her December 2020 retirement from music.
“My grind is different, my hustle is different. Like, I’m not playing with y’all, my tolerance is different, what I’m willing to take and not willing to take — you get what I’m saying?” she said. “Motherhood is what made me start to pour more into the other things that I love to do and also to help other people.”
