The Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago (UTESA), is the largest private, non-profit higher education institution in the Dominican Republic. Founded on November 12, 1974, the university was created in response to the national need for qualified professionals in technical and professional fields during a period of economic and social transformation in the country.
Since its establishment, UTESA has pursued the goal of expanding access to higher education and promoting the intellectual and professional development of students regardless of their social, economic, political, or religious background. The institution was founded on principles that emphasize democratic values, academic excellence, and the formation of professionals with strong ethical and civic responsibility.
UTESA’s main campus is located in Santiago de los Caballeros, one of the principal economic and cultural centers of the Dominican Republic. Over the decades, the university has expanded its academic presence through additional campuses and extension sites across the country, including Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, Moca, Dajabón, Santa Cruz de Mao, and Gaspar Hernández, allowing the institution to serve students from multiple regions.
The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across multiple academic disciplines, including business and social sciences, engineering and technology, health sciences, architecture, and other professional fields. These programs are designed to combine theoretical knowledge with practical and professional competencies that respond to the needs of contemporary society and the labor market.
From its earliest years, UTESA has maintained a strong commitment to innovation and the continuous development of its academic offerings. The institution initially introduced programs in areas such as business administration, accounting, economics, and architecture, and has since expanded its curriculum to include additional fields such as engineering, health sciences, and applied technologies.
In addition to its academic activities, UTESA promotes research, professional training, and community engagement initiatives aimed at supporting national development and strengthening connections between academia, industry, and society. Through these efforts, the university seeks to contribute to the generation of knowledge and the preparation of professionals capable of addressing economic, technological, and social challenges at both national and international levels.
UTESA continues to position itself as an institution dedicated to expanding educational opportunities and fostering the development of human talent. Its mission emphasizes the formation of competent professionals who combine technical expertise with ethical values and a commitment to the progress of their communities and the country.
