Gemma Brett scored a game-high 16 points to lead second-seeded Wall to a 55-40 victory over top-seeded Freehold Borough in the Shore Conference Coaches’ Cup championship in Freehold.
The win extended Wall’s winning streak to six games.
Wall jumped out to an early lead, outscoring Freehold Borough 14-8 in the first quarter and 8-7 in the second to take a 22-15 advantage into halftime. Wall maintained control throughout the second half, closing the game on a 21-15 run in the fourth quarter to secure the championship.
The effort was complemented by Logan Wells, who added 10 points and seven rebounds. Sophia Koepping contributed nine points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while Ashlyn Holobinko finished with eight points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Meghan McBarron hauled in a team-high nine rebounds to go along with five points, and Erin McBarron added seven points, four steals and three assists.
Wall finished with 34 total rebounds and 13 assists as a team, while recording 14 steals.
Olivia Batchelor led Freehold Borough with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Avery Wyatt and Madison Sims each added seven points for the Colonials. The loss snapped Freehold Borough’s four-game winning streak, dropping the Colonials to 14-12 on the season. Wall improved to 11-12.
