London Whitten scored a game-high 16 points while also recording five boards and five steals for 10th-seeded McNair as it knocked off 15th-seeded Lincoln to secure a 46-17 win in the first round of the Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League Tournament in Jersey City.
McNair’s victory advances it to the second round where it will visit the seventh-seeded BelovED Charter, which had a bye through the first round.
McNair took control of the action almost immediately, opening up a 13-2 lead in the first quarter and expanding its margin to 25-5 at halftime. Sharada Suresh chipped in seven points and a team-high seven rebounds for McNair (10-11).
McNair’s victory inched it closer to a spot in the North Jersey, 2, Group 2 Tournament, as it currently sits at 19th place in the power point rankings and will need to climb into the top 16 to qualify for the state sectional tournament.
Bella Curtis and Tytiana Tucker scored six points apiece for Lincoln (3-16).
