F.B.I. Investigates Texas Bar Shooting as Possible Act of Terrorism
A suspect wearing a sweatshirt with the words “Property of Allah” opened fire outside of a bar in downtown Austin early Sunday morning, killing at least two and injuring 14 others. The F.B.I. is now investigating the incident as a potential act of terrorism.
“We know that a vehicle, a large S.U.V. drove several times around the block in that area. At one point, he put his flashers on, rolled down his window and began using a pistol shooting out of his car windows, striking patrons of the bar that were on the patio and that were in front of the bar. As the officers were responding again, our suspect was coming toward East Austin or East Sixth Street. Officers were coming toward him, and at the intersection he was shot and he was killed.” “It’s still way too early in the process to determine an exact motivation, but there were indicators that — on the subject and in his vehicle — that indicate potential nexus to terrorism.”
