MANILA, Philippines — Following the deadly school shooting in Tacloban City, a proposal to ban certain online video games has been hotly debated on social media.
“It’s Showtime” host and Rocksteddy vocalist Teddy Corpuz gave his reaction on the said proposal.
Teddy insisted on his Facebook page that he does not agree that video games are to blame for the violence that occurred.
“Naglalaro ako ng ‘Call of Duty’ pero okay naman ako. Okay naman mental health ko at anger management ko,” Teddy said.
“I think the issue has something to do with better education system, tighter security sa mga schools, responsible gun ownership, and better parenting also,” he added.
According to Teddy, video games should not be made a “scapegoat” because there are many other problems that need attention.
“Doon nga sa basketball court, may nag-barilan at saksakan din because of pikunan sa game, so pa-ban na rin natin basketball sa bansa?” he said.
The rocker and host also could not help but criticize the proposed total ban on violent games.
“‘Pag ban ‘yung mga ganitong klaseng games, mawawala na ang ganyang types of crimes committed by minors? Ang daming factors na need i-consider, pag-aralan at baguhin, pero kabobohan ‘yung shortcut route,” he said.
Calls to ban some violent video games have surfaced after the shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City in which two minors, ages 14 and 15, allegedly opened fire inside the school.
Three people were killed, while 20 were injured in the incident.
