Jalen Forehan-Kelly scored 14 points, including four three-pointers, to lead sixth-seeded Chatham to a 69-54 upset victory over third-seeded Morristown-Beard in the Morris County Tournament quarterfinals in Morristown.
Ryan Leach added 13 points, including 11 from the free-throw line, while Marco Mannino and Lochlan Mahoney each contributed 11 points for Chatham (16-4). The Cougars overcame a nine-point halftime deficit by outscoring Morristown-Beard 26-8 in a decisive third quarter.
With the victory, Chatham advances to face second-seeded Madison in the semifinals on Saturday at County College of Morris.
MJ Jarrell led all scorers with 24 points for Morristown-Beard (12-6), while George Gabriel Ventura posted a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Chatham trailed 35-26 at halftime after Morristown-Beard built its lead with a 19-16 first quarter advantage followed by a 16-10 second quarter. However, the Cougars completely flipped the momentum after the break, taking control with their third-quarter surge and closing out the game with a 17-11 fourth quarter.
Nick Anderson contributed across the stat sheet for Morristown-Beard with five steals, four rebounds, and four assists.
