Louis Vuitton’s heritage roots in travel remain an integral source of inspiration for Nicolas Ghesquière. This season, the idea of travel is reduced to its simplest form—the adventure of it all—and that sense of wonder was immediately apparent when Louis Vuitton presented its Fall 2026 collection yesterday in Paris.
Show notes for the collection describe the connectivity of it all, and how traversing and transversing create a conversation. This season, the collection is defined by that in-between, and pieces are crafted with a sense of a journey in mind. Exploration is a continued theme throughout; it’s not about the destination, but about the moments in between.
Avant-Garde Meets Wearability
Ready-to-wear defies the traditional sense of a utilitarian garment, reimagining traditional folkwear for the future. While some pieces are undeniably more avant-garde than commercial, there are wearable elements throughout, like structured suiting and statement jackets.
The bags, too, play on the same themes, and Louis Vuitton fans will delight in the return of the classic Noé in its largest form, dating back to 1932. A big enough bag for adventure—or two bottles of champagne. Other bags draw on Louis Vuitton’s cornerstone designs, such as intricate belted iterations of the Petite Malle.
Elsewhere, new bags like a soft knotted top-handle bag with leather corners that mimic the details of a classic trunk offer a hint of newness, as does a cool new version of the Speedy bag with elongated handles. The Speedy appears spliced to reveal a bag within a bag, akin to how many of us travel with our handbags in our under-the-seat carry-ons.
