The creator of the TV show Jack Ryan has reacted to the show’s Venezuela “prophecy,” after the United States moved to strike Venezuela and capture the country’s president Nicolás Maduro, and fans of the show highlighted parallels between this real-life event and the show’s plot.
A clip of Jack Ryan quickly went viral online after the strike against Venezuela. That clip, from the second season of Amazon’s Prime Video action thriller shows the eponymous CIA analyst, played by John Krasinski, say that Venezuela should be considered a “major” threat on the world stage.
These similarities are not lost on show creator Carlton Cuse, who told Deadline, “What always surprises you as a storyteller is how often real-world events catch up to fiction.”
“The goal of that season wasn’t prophecy – it was plausibility. When you ground a story in real geopolitical dynamics, reality has a way of making it rhyme,” Cuse said.
Directly addressing the choice of Venezuela as the subject of the second series, Cuse said that they “weren’t making a statement,” but rather “telling a fictional character-driven thriller rooted in Venezuela’s long-standing strategic relevance.”
This is a developing story. More to follow.
