Gabriella Micucci scored a game-high 23 points, including 14 from the free throw line, to lead Emerson Boro to a narrow 45-44 victory over North Arlington in the Bergen County Invitational Round of 16 on Saturday.
The win snapped North Arlington’s seven-game winning streak and improved the Cavos to 15-3 overall. The Vikings now have a 16-3 record.
Madison Kornas led North Arlington with 18 points, while Lyndsay Gilbert contributed 12 points in the losing effort.
Emerson Boro overcame a slow start after falling behind 11-5 in the first quarter. The home team responded with a dominant second quarter, outscoring North Arlington 20-10 to take a 25-21 halftime lead.
North Arlington battled back in the third quarter, outscoring Emerson 12-9, but both teams scored 11 points in the final period as Emerson held on for the one-point victory.
Mackenzie Dillon added 10 points for Emerson Boro, while Jillian Canino contributed two three-pointers for 6 points.
Emerson Boro, the 18th seed, will host Cresskill next Saturday. Cresskill enters the matchup having won three consecutive games./END DELETE!!!!
