Saddle up for Season 2 of Ransom Canyon, which will arrive on Netflix July 23.
The second season of the Western drama series will feature eight episodes. The show is based on Jodi Thomas’ book series.
According to the logline, “Season 2 will pick up six months after the events of the first season, with rancher Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) fighting to reclaim his legacy after being unseated as trustee of his family’s Double K Ranch, while musician Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly) must decide if her heart truly belongs in the small town she once tried to outrun or in the fast-paced world of New York City. Are they star-crossed lovers, or fated to be together? In Ransom Canyon, true love stories are messy, complicated, and always worth the wait.”
Patricia Clarkson has joined Season 2 to portray Quinn’s mother Claire O’Grady. Quinn is not the only one with a family member retrning to the fold. Steve Howey will recur in Season 2 as Staten’s half-brother Levi. Heidi will portray Yancy Grey’s mysterious wife. Deadline broke the news of her casting alongside that of Ben Robson.
Returning cast includes Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Jack Schumacher, Marianly Tejada, Casey W. Johnson, Tatanka Means, Justin Johnson Cortez, Philip Winchester, Jennifer Ens, Brett Cullen, Niko Guardado.

Season 1 left off with Quinn getting an offer to play piano in New York City from Katherine Bullock (Kate Burton), a dream she left behind in favor of returning to Ransom Canyon. The first season watched her and Staten finally get together after a will-they-won’t-they dynamic, but the finale had them split up again partly due to her choice to go to New York. Meanwhile, Staten faced the threat of losing his land and ranch when his father (Brett Cullen) challenged his authority.

Lizzy Greene’s Lauren Brigman suffered a brutal injury at college cheer tryouts in addition to learning that her mother was ultimately responsible for the death of Staten’s son Randall (Hubert Jerzyk Smielecki). She and Lucas Russell (Wareing) seemed to be going strong, but he got some letters about some colleges out of state, which might not bode well for their relationship since Lauren could stay local.
Lucas’ brother Kit Russell (Casey W. Johnson) was the main suspect in Randall’s death until it was revealed that he was romantically involved with Lauren’s mother. Johnson has been upped to series regular for Season 2.

As for Yancy Grey (Schumacher), he proposed to Ellie Estevez (Tejada), but then his wife, who was only shown from the back, approached Ellie at Quinn’s Bar and Dance Hall Gracie’s. This threw a wrench in their wedding plans.

Deadline also first reported that Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who played father-and-son Davis and Reid Collins in Season 1, will not return as series regulars in Season 2. Davis is Staten’s brother in law via Staten’s late wife, and Reid is Staten’s nephew. He was romantically involved with Lauren Brigman before she got together with Lucas. The Collins were one of three major ranching families in Ransom Canyon, with Staten’s Double K and Cap Fuller’s (James Brolin) land rounding out the triangle. Cap died in Season 1, much to the dismay of Yancy Grey, who figured out he was related to Cap the more he dug into the small town’s history and deep-rooted family lineage.
Ransom Canyon is created, showrun and executive produced by April Blair. Executive producers include stars Duhamel and Kelly as well as Dan Angel, Bradley Gardner, Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, Joe Fazzio.
