Staff discipline cases hit record high at N.J. youth detention agency

Gary Nieves and William Young were terminated after investigators found they engaged in sexual relationships with a female resident in Bordentown.

More than a third of major discipline cases against staff at New Jersey’s Youth Justice Commission ended in terminations or resignations in 2025, as the total number of cases reached its highest level since the state began publicly releasing data in 2020.
