Gov. Mikie Sherrill is asking lawmakers to approve a record-high $60.7 billion state budget. Sherrill on Tuesday proposed higher spending on public education and mass transit. She also plans to continue funding direct property tax relief and public worker pensions. A Democrat in her first year in the Governor’s Office, Sherrill also wants budget cuts.
