Mint Chinese Film Festival, in partnership with its 2026 media partner Asian Movie Pulse, has opened applications for its 2026 Emerging Critics Scheme, a programme dedicated to supporting and platforming new voices in film criticism focused on Chinese and Asian cinema.
The scheme invites individuals working across film, visual arts, literature, and the wider creative and media sectors who are passionate about festival coverage and critical writing. Anyone who has published at least one film review on any platform is eligible to apply, with the festival particularly encouraging submissions from women and nonbinary critics.
Selected emerging critics will publish reviews on the official Mint Chinese Film Festival website. Outstanding work produced through the programme will also be featured in a dedicated section on the Asian Movie Pulse platform, one of the leading international publications devoted to Asian cinema, providing participants with expanded global visibility.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to attend the festival in person, with accommodation in Kendal provided from 5–9 March 2026. Participants will gain access to screenings, networking opportunities, and conversations with filmmakers, organisers, curators, and invited guests. They will also serve as members of a special Critics Jury, collectively selecting a short film for the Emerging Critics Choice Award.
