Among the long list of national Democrats telling Graham Platner to drop out of the race in Maine is the senior U.S. Senator from New Jersey, Cory Booker.
“Enough is enough,” said Booker after a Politico story that the Maine Senate candidate raped her in 2021. “Graham Platner needs to step aside.”
Jenny Racicot, told Politico that Platner entered her home five years ago while drunk and sexually assaulted her. The two had been in an on-and-off relationship.
Platner became the Democratic nominee against five-term Republican Susan Collins after a big lead by him prompted the party-backed candidate, Gov. Janet Mills, to drop out of the race.
In a joint statement, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee chair, called on Platner to drop out and pledged to spend no money to help him if he remained in the race.
Leaders of the Maine Democratic Party also called on Platner to drop out of the race.
