(SOMERS POINT, NJ) — Gateway Playhouse of Somers Point is holding open auditions for their third MainStage production of the year, the incredibly fun 9 to 5: The Musical. Auditions will take place from 6:00pm-8:00pm Monday and Tuesday, August 10 and 11, 2026. All roles are open and any performance experience is welcomed (must be 16 or older).
Featuring the hit score by Dolly Parton and based on the beloved 1980 film, the show is jampacked with unforgettable music and larger-than-life characters with a story of friendship, resilience and empowerment. In essence, 9 to 5 celebrates the strength of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Set in the late 1970s, 9 to 5: The Musical follows three very different office co-workers—Violet, Doralee and Judy—who become unlikely friends after enduring abuse, sexism and manipulation from their egotistical boss, Franklin Hart, Jr. When an unexpected twist of fate places Hart temporarily out of the picture, the women take control of the office and transform it into a happier, more productive workplace. Along the way, they discover confidence, friendship and the courage to stand up for themselves while proving that respect, collaboration and compassion can accomplish far more than intimidation ever could.
“9 to 5: The Musical is first and foremost a comedy, but it is rooted in themes of equality, friendship, resilience, and standing up for what’s right,” said Gateway Artistic Producer Phil Pallitto. “While the show contains some outdated attitudes reflective of its time period, these moments exist to highlight the strength, courage and growth of the female characters.”
Rehearsals will begin August 17 and will typically be held three to four times per week, including some weekends, leading up to tech week. Attendance at all technical and dress rehearsals and performances is required. Performance dates are September 24-27, October 1-4.
