Procore and Compass owner Bespoke Metrics announced October 15 that Compass will be the default provider of subcontractor prequalification services across Procore’s construction management platform as its preferred subcontractor prequal platform.
Compass, an artificial intelligence-powered platform, has been available on Procore’s platform for more than two years but the new partnership will utilize Compass’s model-context-protocol connection to allow general contractors using Procore to receive a Compass Q score and prequalification results, yet not the financials behind them, from Compass’ platform. Subcontractors’ financial data will still reside only on Compass’ servers.
MCP is an open-source standard introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 which was later donated to the Agentic AI Foundation operated by the Linux Foundation. It allows agentic AI applications to connect to external data sources such as Compass’ credit information and workflows such as those in Procore’s construction management platform.
“Compass is clearly not going to be the LLM that you’re going to use for all your AI needs,” says Michael Ho, CEO of Compass owner Bespoke Metrics. “If we can capture the risk AI component, and then service outputs from risk into Procore … that sounds like a perfect integration for us. So, the risk manager would use us and our AI. It would serve up intelligence without crossing over in terms of sensitive data.”
As part of the partnership, Procore is launching Prequal for All, which brings Compass prequalification to every general contractor and subcontractor working in Procore. Compass analyzes a subcontractor’s financial, safety, insurance and operational information to generate a Q (for qualification) score and store a qualification profile that’s updated in its database. The scores and prequalification results are the only things shared via Prequal for All on Procore’s platform.
“Prequalification is a critical risk management function that demands purpose-built tools and a data-rich platform,” Geoff Lewis, Procore’s senior vice president of product said in a statement. “By deepening our partnership with Bespoke Metrics, and further integrating their insights directly into Procore’s AI-powered platform, we are able to replace passive, static forms with active, modern risk intelligence.”
Ho said that as someone who came to construction technology via the credit and banking industry, construction’s approach to qualification was always difficult to justify.
“I came from a credit background, from a rating agency, and so every industry does this counterparty assessment, prequalification.” he said, “It was nonsensical to me that you were going to get into a professional relationship and not do this abetting. My metaphor is always before you get married, you’ve got to have that discussion.”
