(MAPLEWOOD, NJ) — Bruce Eric Kaplan, writer, cartoonist and executive producer, will receive the Maplewood Literary Award on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the Maplewood Memorial Library. The event begins at 7:00pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
His bio states ” …Kaplan is a wonderful fellow who writes for television and draws cartoons. In television, he has worked on shows such as Seinfeld, Six Feet Under, and Girls, and is currently an Executive Producer and Co-Showrunner of Nobody Wants This.”
As a cartoonist, his work has regularly appeared in The New Yorker for over thirty years. Three collections of these cartoons have been published. They are No One You Know, This is a Bad Time, and I Love You, I Hate You, I’m Hungry. He has written several picture books for adults including Every Person on this Planet, Edmund and Rosemary Go to Hell, and Everything is Going to be OK.
In addition, he has written and illustrated five picture books for children. His first, Monsters Eat Whiny Children, came out in 2010 and was an instant best seller. He has written two memoirs, I Was a Child and They Went Another Way, both published to great critical acclaim.”
