The developer that had sought a zoning change in Citrus County to attract large-scale data centers has withdrawn its plan from consideration, according to county officials.
Citrus County announced the move by Deltona Corporation in a Tuesday post on its Facebook page. A scheduled July 14 vote of the county commissioners on the proposal would no longer take place, it said.
“Citrus County enacted a one-year moratorium on data centers in May 2026. The county has been working on developing an ordinance to help strongly address proposed data centers in the future while maintaining legal compliance,” the post reads. “We appreciate the public’s time and input regarding this matter.”
Scores of residents spoke in opposition to the data center plan at a nine-hour public meeting last week.
At the end of the hearing, the county’s planning board decided to recommend against the approval of the plan, which would have expanded an existing industrial park to 1,356 acres and changed zoning from residential to heavy industrial in the town of Holder.
But the plan had still been alive until the scheduled vote from the county commission next month.
This is a breaking story. Check back for updates.
