Post-race fireworks
One thing Singapore is known for is fireworks as soon as the winner reaches the chequered flag. These fill the city’s skyline, and make for a very visual celebration, which not only looks great on television but also adds another layer to the spectacle.
The victors climb out of their cars with the bright, bold colours bursting in the night sky behind them. It’s become such a big moment for the race organisers that there are even fans who film the spectacle as its own standalone event.
Fireworks are released trackside, as well as on the nearby water on Marina Bay, and similar post-race fireworks displays have since become a common feature at several other night races, including Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Las Vegas.
Music meets motorsport
Singapore’s impact on Formula 1 extends beyond the racing itself. Alongside becoming the sport’s first night race, the event helped establish Marina Bay as one of the calendar’s most distinctive destinations by combining on-track action with world-class entertainment throughout the weekend.
The race has become known for its festival atmosphere, with fans able to enjoy live music performances after the day’s track sessions have ended, keeping the energy going long into the night.
Over the years, artists including Rihanna, Katy Perry, Shakira, Dua Lipa, OneRepublic, Post Malone and Maroon 5 have performed across the race weekend, helping to make the event a draw for motorsport and music fans alike.
This season will be no different, with acts including The Killers, Goo Goo Dolls, Zara Larsson, Lana Del Rey, Janet Jackson and Mark Ronson set to take to the stage during the F1 Sprint weekend.
Given the success, it’s a blueprint a number of other events have adopted with F1 fans getting to enjoy some of the best musical acts across the globe alongside the racing action that keeps us gripped across the season.
