Greenland’s leader said he had a “constructive” meeting with Donald Trump’s envoy to the Arctic island, but warned there were no signs the U.S. president has changed his ambition to acquire the territory.
Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen met with U.S. Special Envoy Jeff Landry on Monday in Nuuk, in what the premier later described as a “respectful dialog conducted in a polite tone” and defined by “an attempt to listen and an attempt to learn.”
Nielsen, speaking to media, said he used the meeting to reiterate that “the Greenlandic people are not for sale and Greenland’s right to self-determination is not up for negotiation.” The meeting, which was also attended by Greenland’s Foreign Minister Mute B Egede and U.S. ambassador to Denmark Kenneth Howery.
