A Hillsborough County jail inmate died Sunday after spending six days in a hospital, deputies said.
Ryan Michael Zavalick, 35, was being held at the Falkenburg Road Jail on Aug. 24 when he was taken to Tampa General Hospital for “health-related concerns,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Zavalick remained in the hospital until Sunday, when he was pronounced dead at 11:13 p.m.
The Hillsborough County medical examiner was working to determine Zavalick’s cause of death.
Zavalick was arrested and booked on Aug. 23 on charges of loitering or prowling and possession of drug paraphernalia, records show. During his first appearance, a judge set his bond at $650 and appointed a public defender to represent him. He was scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 22.
