Mayu Matsuoka and Ryo Narita are cast in movie “Otoko Tomodachi.” Movie is based on 2017 novel “Otoko Tomodachi” by Akane Chihaya and directed by Yukiko Mishima (“The Antique“). Writer Akane Chihaya won the Naoki Prize for her more recent novel “Shirogane no Ha” in 2023 and “Otoko Tomodachi” is her first novel that is being adapted into a movie. Meanwhile, the first teaser trailer and poster has been released for the upcoming movie.
“Otoko Tomodachi” will be released November 6, 2026 in Japan.
Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Kanna (Mayu Matsuoka) is a 29 year old illustrator in Kyoto. Her life seems to be going smoothly, both professionally and personally, but, she has lost sight of what she wants to draw and is stuck in a rut. She spends her days running away into meaningless romances. One day, Kanna receives a call from Haseo (Ryo Narita). He was her senior during their university days and, after 7 years, they reunite again. Kanna spends three nights with him as a friend, who still shows the same warmth and understanding to her as he did in the past. This leads to Kanna’s life changing significantly.
