A dense fog alert has been issued for most of the state on Wednesday morning followed by clearing skies and wind gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon.
The dense fog advisory for 16 counties continues until 10 a.m. The five northeastern counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union are not included in the advisory.
The National Weather Service said to expect “dense fog this morning is followed by a partly cloudy sky. Increasing west-northwest wind with gusts upwards of 20-30 mph.”
High temperatures will be in the upper 40s to low 50s across the state.
Tonight, a weak system will move through, bringing light precipitation primarily to areas near and north of the Interstate 78 and Interstate 80 corridors.
While most areas will see light rain, higher elevations in northwest New Jersey could see some freezing rain overnight.
Thursday’s forecast calls for high temperatures ranging from the lower 40s to near 50 degrees.
By Friday, a warm front will lift through the region, likely with scattered showers during the day that continue into the evening.
Temperatures will trend warmer, reaching 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year by the start of the weekend.
Another storm is expected Saturday as a cold front approaches.
Widespread rain showers and strong winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected.
While severe weather potential appears limited, isolated damaging wind gusts cannot be ruled out, the weather service said.
Windy conditions will continue Sunday with gusts approaching 35 mph.
Winds are expected to decrease by Monday as high pressure builds back into the region, returning temperatures to near-normal seasonable levels for the start of the next work week.
