Nagi by SoHo Sushi opened Monday in the former GenX Tavern space in downtown Tampa.
Expect Japanese food like sushi, bento boxes, skewers, nigiri and sashimi.
One experience the restaurant is offering is tableside sushi from a custom-built sushi cart, crafting an omakase meal at the dining table.
Nagi is calling itself a “modern izakaya,” essentially a Japanese-style bar or tavern that serves shareable snacks.
The cocktail lounge includes Japanese whiskey, housemade libations and an ice program.
“Nagi isn’t just a meal — it’s a journey into the heart of Japanese hospitality, refined for the modern epicurean,” owner Dave Burton said by email Monday.
SoHo Sushi opened over 20 years ago in South Tampa. Both restaurants are owned and managed by Burton Holdings, helmed by Burton, who acquired SoHo Sushi in 2022.
Nagi is open for lunch and dinner Monday-Friday and dinner on Saturday-Sunday. The spot will be launching late-night programming Thursday-Saturday in late November with Tampa-based DJ Ku.
“This has been a long road, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created,” a news release said.
